Ola Podrida began as a home-recording project for film composer David Wingo (GEORGE WASHINGTON, ALL THE REAL GIRLS, THE GUATEMALAN HANDSHAKE), who began writing and recording a batch of songs soon after moving back to Austin from New York at the beginning of 2005. Upon completion of the recordings, he started performing the songs live with old friends Robert Patton (guitar) and Matthew Frank (drums), both of whom moved back to Brooklyn with Wingo in the fall of 2006, where they are now also playing with another old Texas friend, Andrew Kenny (bass). Ola Podrida’s self-titled debut album is being released by the label Plug Research in the spring of 2007……………….””Instead” is as beautiful as a sad song can be. It guards the listener with as much care as the Red House Painters do and it grows to meet the shape of your silhouette: be there one of you, or two. It’s a calm that implies a coat full of turmoil; a sunset that implies the broken-and-mended day.
