作者介绍

作者 Norman W. Schur，1908年生于波士顿，毕业于哥伦比亚大学法学院（Columbia Law School），在纽约曼哈顿和英国当了50多年的律师，后成为词典编撰者，专精国际语义学（international semantics）。1992年5月29日于康涅狄格州费尔菲尔德县（Fairfield）诺沃克医院（Norwalk Hospital）去世，享年84岁。作者还出版了《Practical English: 1,000 Most Effective Words》、《1000 Most Important Words》、《2000 Most Challenging And Obscure Words》、《A Dictionary of Challenging Words》等多部词汇方面的著作。（据《纽约时报》1992年6月4日讣告）
