本碟于1994年出版，是美国Mercury即“水星”唱片公司的经典立体声录音精选，收入乐曲22首（段）。众所周知，这些Mercury早期原始立体声录音都是以三声道模式录制，其模拟母带也就是三声道的。在制作本碟时，大名鼎鼎的Mercury工程师Wilma Cozart Fine将母带上的三声道信号转换成了制作CD所必需的双声道立体声信号，而CD母带制作则由母带工程师Andrew Nicholas担任。CD碟片在德国压制。
本碟问世已逾十年，被公认为Mercury古典管弦乐录音的典范，内中乐曲皆由名家名团演绎，各项录音指标几乎都到了登峰造极的地步，大气、灿烂、爆棚的感觉令人神为之夺！
