2005年，当红金属乐队System Of A Down连续发行的两张录音室专辑《Mezmerize》和《Hypnotize》（均由Rick Rubin制作）都获得了当年Billboard 200专辑榜的冠军，此后，System Of A Down开始进入了休整期。赶在乐队发片的空挡期，主唱Serj Tankian适时地发行了他的首张个人专辑《Elect The Dead》。在全美上市首周，本张专辑以近6万9千张的单周销量成绩排在本周Billboard 200专辑榜的第四位。
这张《Elect The Dead》是通过Serj Tankian在Warner公司旗下设立的个人厂牌Serjical Strike发行的。在System Of A Down乐队中时，Serj Tankian主要负责歌词的创作，而主要的作曲任务一般都是由吉他手Daron Malakian来完成。但在自己的这张处子作当中，全部12首歌曲的词曲创作全由Serj Tankian一人包办。
虽然还是那个我们非常熟悉的声音，但《Elect The Dead》带给听众的感觉跟System Of A Down乐队的专辑还是截然不同的。如果说System Of A Down乐队的作品更为硬朗的话，那么Serj Tankian这张个人专辑就显得相对更为细腻、更为多样化。
由于身边没有了老搭档Daron Malakian的协助，Serj Tankian在这张个人专辑中增加了钢琴的运用，出彩的吉他段落相对System Of A Down少了一些。同名单曲《Elect The Dead》就是一首纯钢琴伴奏的慢歌，而在《Sky Is Over》当中，钢琴也是主角。《The Unthinking Majority》中间与《Money》结尾部分那种连续的嘶吼还有一点System Of A Down的气势，除此之外，后面大部分单曲都与System Of A Down乐队走的是不同的路子。《Baby》走的是半柔情华的路线；《Honking Antelope》以弦乐打底、以钢琴为主奏；《Lie Lie Lie》则融入了些许西亚民族音乐的元素。
可能会有System Of A Down的歌迷认为这张《Elect the Dead》不够硬朗，但单兵作战的Serj Tankian还是很好的展现出了他相对更为细腻的一面。KFC MAN/文

Serj Tankian (Armenian: Սերժ Թանգեան) (born August 21, 1967 in Beirut, Lebanon[1]) is a Lebanese-born Armenian-American singer, songwriter, poet, activist, and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known as the lead vocalist, keyboardist and rhythm guitarist of the alternative metal band System of a Down. In 2002, Serj and Tom Morello co-founded a non-profit political activist organization, Axis of Justice. During his entertainment career, he released five albums with System of a Down, one with Arto Tunçboyacıyan (Serart), and also recently a solo album, Elect the Dead, on October 23, 2007.
